Lasik Surgery
I have worn glasses or contacts since elementary school, beginning a few weeks after I told my parents I couldn’t read the chalkboard in class. My vision is terrible, near-blind I tell people. I HAVE to wear contacts/glasses, or I can barely see my hand in front of my face.
So. If I could get my prescription to stop getting worse each year, I would be all about Lasik Eye Surgery. I know a handful of people who’ve gotten it, all with rave reviews of waking up and being able to see, taking a shower and being able to see, getting up in the middle of the night without fishing for your glasses on the nightstand.
Recently, the people at Lasik e-mailed me to point out even more benefits: financial savings. (Just imagine how much money I’d save by not ever again buying disposable lenses, new glasses, contact solution, etc.) If you want to check out more information, go to iLASIK.com, which answers tons of questions about the procedure.
Also, if you’ve had the procedure done, I’d love to hear what you think about it!

I’ve had LASIK twice and have blogged about my experience (one of my biggest traffic drivers, go figure!).
Here are some posts on the subject: http://gingercorsair.blogspot.com/search/label/Eye%20surgery
Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions, I’d be happy to give you an unbiased answer!

I had Lasik a little over a year ago and it was the most amazing thing I’ve ever done. I still wake up surprised that I can see the clock. You can take out a loan with no interest for a year and pay it off slowly. Just make sure you pay it off on time or the interest hits you retroactively. The best investment I’ve ever made. Just be sure to check around with different doctors. I checked out three and went with the one that made me feel most comfortable. Yes, I spent money on the surgery, but I don’t have to buy contacts, glasses, or drops anymore.

Lasik is DEFINITELY on my to do list for the future. I too have really bad vision, and while I love my glasses I’m kind of a slave to them. I’m thinking in at least a year though, to give me time to save up a bit more.

My husband and I talked about this. He has 20/20 and thinks this might be a good idea in the future. I’m a little more hesitant, but I’m coming around. I’ve also had glasses for a long while (since 1st grade).
If we get it done, we’d save up for it. I hate being in debt (unless it’s a mortgage
).

My dad is an eye doctor and my wife has always been interested in Lasik, so I asked him what he thought. He said something very interesting: “It’s OK for people to get. I think the surgery has gotten to the point where it’s mostly very successful. But I wouldn’t recommend it to my family members because we still don’t know the long-term effects of the surgery and what will happen years down the line.”
Not to scare you out of anything, but that’s his advice. I think my wife still wants it though…

anyone know about that radiography (or something like that) I think out of Columbia? I heard a quick blurb about it on NPR.

I’ve been thinking about LASIK for a long time now, and I’m going to bite the bullet and get it done. I love the idea of not having to wear my glasses all the time … and I’ll save so much money by not having to buy glasses/sunglasses/contacts all the time.

WC: What you wrote is another really big issue (beyond the fact that my bad eyes make it impossible anyway). I’ve heard similar things from eye professionals, and it makes sense. My vision is too important to risk, you know? Thanks for weighing in.
Thanks also to all the rest of you for your input. It’s interesting to hear who’s going for it and why.
