My Food Spending

September 11th, 2008

The reason I’ve been spending so much less on clothes, honestly, is because I’ve been busy with other things, one of the biggest being food—going out to eat, cooking, etc. I have been checking out Bon Appetit magazines and interesting food memoirs from the library (don’t you love the library?), and I have been cooking for other people a lot, so I don’t think this is a big deal.

Some months, I may really want a new jacket and decide to eat out less in order to move money to my clothes envelope. Lately, I have been wanting to enjoy food more, so I’ve been OK with moving a little money from my entertainment envelope, etc.

Essentially, I think this is what I really like about budgeting: clear set guidelines, yet etched in pencil and easily changed. It’s the only, only way I could work with a budget, I think.

I’m the same way. Sometimes whether it is food or a material item I will maybe sacrifice a night out so I can pay for the item.

With food, try to find some hole in the wall establishments. They are usually less expensive and in my opinion a lot better anyways.

I’ve never really been a clothes/shoes/accessories person. I think last year I bought one top and 2 bikinis strictly for pleasure. I did have to buy things for work (suits, nylons, underthings).
Most of my discretionary money goes to food and drink. :)
