monetization
August 28th, 2008
To those of you who make money from your blogs: Would you offer your advice on whether or not this would be a good deal—$3 per 1000 page impressions?
I’ve been thinking about monetizing this blog for a long while now, trying PayPerPost and some PepperJam ads and not really finding a good fit yet. The above question doesn’t directly relate to THIS site, but it is a question that leads me to others:
If you have found a good advertising company that will allow you to post banners/text links/whatever for a reasonable fee, would you tell me about it? And what, since we’re talking, is a reasonable fee?

I’ve been struggling with the same thing, too! No, I haven’t found anything better either.
It makes me wonder if there isn’t anything better out there… but I’ll be watching your comments box in case anyone makes a good suggestion!
$3 per 1000 impressions sounds like a good deal to me.
I think the big catch with CPM ads is that you only get paid for the page impressions when there are ads to serve, which isn’t always the case. For example, you may have 1000 page impressions one day, but only get paid for 400 of them because not enough advertisers bought ads to fill the remaining 600 impressions. In this case, a default ad is displayed, but it doesn’t count as an impression.
If you do the math, you’ll see that you need a lot of traffic to make a significant amount per month. It’s nice if you have them up when you get unexpected surges in traffic from StumbleUpon, Digg, etc. though.
