What I Aspire to Be:
That’s right: I’d like to be plain old vanilla, boring as can be. What does that mean? Well, I’d like to be a young, prosperous, frugal girl who lives on less than she makes and gives more to others.
According to Kiplinger’s, I’m not alone.
Hat Tip: I just read this in my Bloglines, and I can’t remember whose blog cited it!! If it was you, tell me and I’ll pass on the credit (and thanks!). (Budgeting Babe)

I also read about that! I got the link to the article from The Budgeting Babe (budgetingbabe.blogspot.com), maybe that’s where you read it?

Why does being financially savvy have to be lackluster?
Being YAWN in action is great. Modesty of ones self and possessions is a great lifestyle. However, it’s not a boring one. Walks on the beach are free, volunteering with friends is fun, and not having nick-knacks to dust is a time saver.
However, it’s not necessarily a boring lifestyle. I think the acronym is unfortunate and deters people from wanting to adopt such a lifestyle.
It’s fine to aspire to being vanilla- if you think of vanilla as being elegant, exotic, and treasured (those darn seed pods are expensive).
But why do you want to think of yourself as being boring? Can’t being a smart, secure woman be something to be put on a pedestal rather than something to be covered up?

Thanks, QL! I’ll update this accordingly.
SoCal: Actually, I quite agree with you. I guess I meant the vanilla thing a little as a joke. In truth, the fact that so few people choose to be YAWN/vanilla/boring makes it pretty unboring, in my opinion.
