Challenge: Making the Gelato Worth $5
Or, New Uses for Old Things
A week or so ago, I found a $5 container of the most delicious, creamy, almond-flavored gelato I’ve ever had. The taste alone made it worth the $5, in my opinion, but I’ll admit that it is pricey. Especially for a small container of gelato. From the grocery store.
Well, I got to thinking about its pretty packaging and how it reminded me of a drugstore bottle more than a gelato container. And an idea was born:
Now I have not only a satisfied craving but a supercute way to store q-tips.
Could there be more ways, I wonder, to use everyday items for new, cool purposes?
There’s been a lot of encouragement not to spend in the blogosphere lately, and I’ve been loving it.
Between WellHeeled’s Clothing Fast and Krystal’s growing gang of no-spend lunchers, on top of that recent Oprah episode about freegans (if you didn’t see it, you must watch this), I’m wanting to pare down. (And, just between us, I’m trying the clothing/lunching fasts, just in slightly different moderation.) It’s so, so much easier not to spend when it seems everyone else isn’t.
So here’s my contribution to the game: find something you already have and show us a new use for it. Besides my gelato/q-tip container, I’ve found these cool innovations:

I LOVE this idea for envelopes. I have a ton of magzines and this gives me another creative way to use them. I have seen something similar to this using your own photos but didn’t think to use magazines.
Thanks for sharing your great ideas!
The clementine box for your vanity items is brilliant! I did something similar for the vanity except used an old Korean ginseng box made of particle wood.
I’m going to steal the envelope idea, ok? I have more than enough magazines too!!
Steal away!
