Do you know your credit score?
February 24th, 2008
When I applied for the apartment, the management company ran a credit check on me. The agent let me know I had a good score (760), which was kind of nice to find out. I always, always pay everything on time and always have, but I don’t really have a lot of credit. I can’t remember the last time I checked… I suspect it was a year or so ago on that Equifax site online.
Everyone can have a free credit report each year. Do you know your score?

Last time I checked, my credit rating was 744. According to the report, once I’ve had my accounts longer it should go up. It’s actually a big relief to know one’s credit score and look at the credit report - it’s nice to make sure there’s no mistakes. Most people I know simply say “What’s a credit report?” Yikes!
I thought you had to pay to get your score, and just the actual reports (accounts open, payment history, etc.) were free?
Hmmn… good point, J. Now I’m not sure. I know when I checked with Equifax, it showed me all my records, but I totally don’t remember a score..
Anyone else know?
Every Feb. I check my credit score and usually you do have to pay for an actual number score. I think the free reports only give you information like “positive” or “negative” accounts. I know I paid $4.95 for my Vantage Score, but at least I was happy to see my score go up 72 points.
