Networking: LinkedIn!
January 31st, 2008
I was reluctant to set up a LinkedIn profile, for a lot of reasons. It’s another site to join, another thing to keep up with. I didn’t really know what benefit it would be or how many people would be on it.
But this week I set up a profile, and then I used my e-mail address book to locate contacts. The next day, an old professor contacted me about speaking to his undergrad writing class. My alma mater will pay an honorarium of $175.
LinkedIn is already working!
What about you? Do you use LinkedIn?

I’m on it but I never check it. I don’t think there are many people I know on it.
Maybe I should look at it again…
I recently started using Linked In. A grad school friend who is much groovier than I had invited me a year ago, and I only just accepted.
After I signed up I was surprised by the auto-generated requests, which I wasn’t expecting. When you let it mind-meld with your address book, it doesn’t forget. If one of those names in it signs up, it jumps on ‘em. So I’m glad I didn’t let it peruse my Contacts folder.
FGS: Seriously? I selected the names out of my contact list; will it still auto-generate? I’ll have to look into that.
