Inside the Mind of a Spammer
January 16th, 2008
I really want to know: how do spammers make money?
When someone leaves a comment on my blog like “What a Tuesday!” or “skdfjsldk 123231 go to,” what is the payoff? When hundreds of junk e-mails crowd random inboxes, what is the benefit to the mail senders? I understand the ones with website links; they’re trying to drive up their linkage rating or draw people to their advertising. But what about the other ones?
If you have some secret window into the spammer’s world, please let me in. I can’t for the life of me figure it out!

i think that if you send out a million spam emails, even if you just get .01% to buy something, you make money. And since email is free (and generally, spammed from someone’s “infected” computer, so free bandwidth, etc), there is not much cost.
If emails cost even a penny to send, spam email would go away. Of course, that would never work, but…
But, I don’t have any secret spammer insight, just listened to a 15 minute segment on public radio about spam in email
I love talking about Spam! Check out a site called The Scambaiter to see how some guys get back at the spammers, it’s incredible how much time and energy they put into it!
I think that the more links you can get back to your site, the higher its authority in search engines.
I get a lot of those too, which I delete.
I also used to get a LOT of spam from some website selling costa rica real estate. that was a real pain.
