Shop Smart
July 29th, 2007
Have you seen this magazine?I browsed through a copy at the store this afternoon but couldn’t get over its $5.99 pricetag. (!) Just now, I went online to see what I could read about it, and this is what I found: Created by Consumer Reports, Shop Smart is targeted towards women, as a money-conscious mag. It’s filled with research on products and services. Though you can’t find the actual magazine online, CR does have a shopping blog, which showcases much of the same info.

Doesn’t sound very smart to me.
A $5.99 magazine called “Shop Smart”!? That’s a ridiculously overpriced magazine aimed at females and teaching conscious money spending.
If it was $2 I’d reconsider. But at $6 I could buy fresh groceries or a few used books.
That’s funny! $5.99… actually, I should take it as an insult from a female point of view! Do they seriously think I’d pay $6 for a magazine that tells me to “Shop Smart”?!
I think the first step in shopping smart is to not buy this magazine.
I can’t imagine that they think frugal women will buy a $6 magazine. I guess libraries will subscribe to it, and the truly frugal women will read it there.
If you’ve noticed the price on most magazines, the $5.99 price tag for ShopSamrt isn’t that bad, especially considering it has no advertising- Yeah! Most magazines offer subscribers a discounted rate, which would truly make this magazine a bargain. I cannot find a way to subscribe. Does anyone know how?
